Kolkata: Continuing with a steep rise in the Covid-19 case in West Bengal for the past week, the country on Sunday recorded 6,153 infections with Kolkata taking into account 3,194 of them, the health department bulletin said.
The state has recorded 4,512 cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, with a metropolitan just reporting 2,398 of them.
Bulletin said that eight people died of Coronavirus on Sunday, while nine patients had killed the previous day.
19,781 people have died of a disease so far, according to the bulletin.
Of the eight new deaths in the state, two people died in Kolkata, three in 24 North Parginas, two in Hooghly and one in the HOWRA district, said the bulletin.
The level of participation rose by 15.93 percent from 12.02 percent the previous day, while the number of daily tests rose from Saturday 37,542 to 38,633 on Sunday, he said.
24 North Parganas followed Kolkata in second place in the number of infections in 994 cases on Sunday, up from 688 the previous day, said Bulletin.
Apart from Kolkata and North 24 parganas, other districts that record high cases are Howrah (595), South 24 parganas (280), Paschim Bardhaman (257), Hooghly (218), Birbhum (140) and Nadia (102), In accordance with the data.
As 2,407 covid patients were removed on Sunday, the recovery rate reached 97.77 percent, he said.
As many as 16.12,331 people have recovered from infection so far, he said, adding that the number of total Covid cases recorded in the country was 16,49,150.
Overall 2.14,68,047 samples were tested for Covid-19 in West Bengal so far, said Bulletin.
