West Bengal: Sentinel Survey to Fight Covid Waves

Kolkata: The case of fresh Covid-19 in Bengal has now dripped into a three-digit number for 10 consecutive days.
But the state government still demands a virus.
The Ministry of Health has launched Sentinel Surveillance to assess the Covid situation with the aim of being zero on the geographical deployment of the virus, the intensity of the transmission and severity of the trend.
For this purpose, 28 government hospitals have been selected.
A hospital will collect 400 samples each in the third week of a month from general patients other than those who come with covid symptoms and get this sample tested for Covid-19.
In terms of positive patient test, there will be a search for contracts and regional identification to see if the infected patients are more asymptomatic in the region.
“At present, Covid is not visible due to a decrease in number.
Random testing will provide an assessment of what actually happens.
When a Covid surge slows down, you might find one of 100 positive tests to say 20 positive when a surge rises.
Sustainable sentinel surveillance will give you Indicators If the number rises from one in 100.
Even if the amount rises slowly, we can make sense that the outbreak is taken, “said Ipgmer Hepatology Head Abhijit Chowdhury, a member of the state expert committee to fight the third wave.
“This kind of epidemiological survey will help in combat policies where efforts can be included in the fire before the fire becomes too malignant,” Chowdhury added.
Four hundred samples from each of the 28 hospitals will be collected starting in the third week of July and will be tested in the attached laboratory.
The cycle will take place every month.
The people who come for Covid-19 tests are generally those who have symptoms or have close contact with positive patients.
But for this supervision, samples will only be collected from patients who come for the treatment of other diseases.
“This will help track hidden cases / lost because many patients remain asymptomatic.
Tracking contracts can help identify certain zones to see if there are other symptoms of patients in the zone.
In such cases, detention and other prevention steps can run far away.
On the face of the third wave, “said Anirban Public Health Specialist, which was attached to Swsatya Bhawan.
Senior doctor Sukumar Mukherjee said that asymptomatic patient testing can provide more comprehensive instructions on the actual burden of infection.
“Taking such cases through supervision will be a way of effective detention while increasing the number of tests that are very much needed,” said Mukherjee, a member of the Bengal Global Advisory Board in Covid-19.
