KABUL: The Afghan Taliban authority will allow between 100 and 150 Americans to fly out of Kabul during the upcoming hours, Qatar officials said on Thursday, marking the airport flight because US forces withdrew from the country.
Large groups of foreigners, including Americans and other Westerners will go on Thursday with Qatar Airways flights who previously had humanitarian assistance transported earlier to the country, officials said.
From Tarmac at Kabul International Airport, Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani, a special envoy Qatar, said the flight would go with Americans and Westerners.
“Call it what you want, rent or commercial flights, everyone has a ticket and boarding pass,” he said, adding that other commercial flights would take off on Friday.
“Hopefully, life becomes normal in Afghanistan.” Qatar officials, who spoke with anonymous requirements in front of the formal announcement, gave the number of Americans.
The departure of a large group of Americans for the first time since the US completed Airlift who panicked at the end of August will also indicate that US officials have held arrangements with the new Taliban rulers.
In the past few days, there has been a stand-off between the Taliban and the organizer of several charter planes who hope to evacuate Americans and risky Afghanists from the airport in North Afghanistan.
The Taliban said they would let passengers with a legitimate travel document away, but many of them at the North Airport did not have such letters.
