Cozhikode: While the row above Pegasus Spyware is global, an application from the Koyilandy-Based Public Service Commission Training Center with the same name has seen fast downloads with people who are wrong to become Israeli spy software.
The authorities of the Pegasus PSC training center in Kerala were surprised to see Spurt suddenly in their ‘Pegasus Online’ application for the last three days since the spyware controversy erupted.
While the total application download reached 1,000 weeks ago, it doubled over the past three days to touch 2,110 on Thursday morning.
“We understand that the new interest found in this application was driven by reports on Pegasus software after we began to get many calls from people who downloaded it outside Kerala, even North Indian countries,” said PC Sanoop, owner of the coaching center.
Abin KT, the staff at the center, said many callers asked how they could manage phone calls using software.
“I was busy telling them that this application was for the coaching of the Kerala PSC exam,” he said, adding that even their Facebook pages were flooded with requests for the past few days.
He said the application has a mythological winged horse as a logo and media report, which uses the image in spyware coverage, will also contribute to this wrong identity.
