When City residents limit new year’s celebrations to homes, places of worship

Coimbatore: City witnessed a muted new year celebration, with many residents visiting places of worship to deliver this year with prayer.
There are no big and party meetings, because the state government has been strictly prohibited as the recent surge in the case of Covid-19.
The celebration is limited to homes and places of worship, where people adhere to the Covid protocol placed by health officials.
People exchange desires by visiting their relatives and their friends, while some to travel remotely to eliminate boredom.
The temple witnessed the crowd all day.
Special Pujas was conducted at the Temple of Puliakulam Vinayakar, Sidhapudur Temple Ayyappa, Maruthamalai Murugan Temple, Perureswarar Temple, Anaimalai Masaniamman Temple, Mettupalayam Vanabadrasali Amman Temple and Koniamman Temple, where large amounts of worshipers.
Christians visit the churches, where midnight prayers and mass are held.
Church of St Michael in Big Bazaar Street, St Antony Church in Puliakulam, Lady of Fatima Church & St Francis from the Assisi Church in Athipalalayam Pirivu and the Syrian Church at Brooke Bond Road is filled with worshipers.
R Jeevagan, a resident of Ganapathy Maa Nagar, said he had handed over a long trip with his family during the new year this time.
“We are not planning a long trip this year because of a pandemic situation.
We visited several relatives and celebrating the new year with them.” The celebration remains a low business in the housing apartment as well.
The celebration was mostly peace in the city, except for some wild incidents here and there.
There was no major main road accident too, because police personnel were deployed on all roads to prevent rashes and driving drunk.
Most major libels were taken under the control of the police after midnight to prevent unnecessary vehicle movements.
