Many before the Mehra and Farhan Akhtar Rakeysh filmmaker made the History of the Box Office with Sport Biopic ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, the director has offered an important role actor in the famous ‘Rang de Basanti’ drama.
Headline by Aamir Khan, ‘Rang de Basanti’, released in 2006, recorded the story of a group of students who changed the rebels for a reason.
Mehra has offered Akhtar part of Karan Singhania, which was finally played by South Star Siddharth.
Director remember that Akhtar, who has made the director’s debut with ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ in 2001, who also starred in Khan, and completed ‘Lakshya’ at the time, was surprised when he offered a filmmaker project.
“He was truly entertained because he had just made a ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and finished ‘Lakshya’.
I told him that I wanted him to act in my film and he didn’t believe at that time!” Mehra said.
“I have offered him the Karan part, which is the only character supported by the author throughout the film.
Farhan was fascinated.
I could see twinkles in his eyes.
He wondered ‘What’s wrong with this person who saw me acting a film?!”, Mehra added.
The Director said Akhtar liked the script but “could not see himself acting at that point”.
Years later, what was interesting, Akhtar made his acting debut in 2008 with the musical ‘rock on !!’.
He saw a career turner five years later with ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ Mehra, biopics in the lives of the late legendary athlete Milkha Singh.
