New Delhi: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said freedom does not mean anything when it was not for everyone and asked what was meant ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ when “poison hatred” was spread in the country.
His statement came after clashes between police and alleged encroachment during driving eviction in Darrang Regency Assam on Thursday which killed two people and 20 people were injured.
A surprising video showing a man shifted the camera and hit the person who apparently died with bullet wounds on his chest also appeared after the incident.
The man was then arrested and the judicial probe was ordered to the incident.
“When poison hatred is spreading in the country, what is ‘Amrit Mahotsav’? What is the meaning of freedom if it is not for everyone,” Gandhi asked in a tweet in Hindi, using the ‘Assam’ tag.
Congress leaders have met Governor Assam Jagadish Mukhi urged him to stop the eviction of drives in Sipajhar in Darrang until the right rehabilitation package was announced.
The Chair of the Minister of Assam Himanta Buswa Sarma on Friday confirmed that the discussion was held for more than four months before the grinding of the push was launched to cleanse the land in Gorukhuti Village in Darrang Regency where the shooting of the police claimed two lives.
Bandh 12 hours are called various organizations to protest the events affected by normal life in Darrang on Friday.
