When the traffic snarls continued for the 2nd day, more police were deployed to facilitate congestion

Panaji: For other days, red traffic at Merces Junction and along the Siridao-agassasaim stretch saw a bumper for bumper traffic.
Goa police blame the ongoing highway work and the closure of Causeway Ribandar for congestion, which has become a daily incident.
Given the large traffic congestion witnessed in Panaji on Monday, Goa police spoke at additional personnel from various traffic cells and distributed it at the entrance of the city to streamline the movement of the vehicle and ensure the smooth running of traffic.
Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Kumar Meena also held a meeting with various authorities and officials to find ways to relieve traffic congestion.
On Tuesday, traffic looks reserved on Setu Atal and near Merces Junction.
Similar logjam at Siridao brought all vehicles to Vasco and Margao to the grinding stop.
Traffic was transferred through Goa Velha since the bypass was closed for the traffic bound south.
Meena said that because the closure of Causeway Ribandar, all vehicles had been diverted on one road, and also many choke points developed because of maintenance work.
“We have mobilized additional workers.
We also asked the authorities to repair the road as early as possible,” Meena said.
He also said that the police department had issued instructions to identify vulnerable points and deploy additional staff at night where there was a high volume of vehicles and traffic jams.
“Traveling on Jalan Goan has become a nightmare not just because of a hole, but also mismanaged traffic,” said a driver who was dissatisfied, Harshal rose.
Some ambulances are seen stuck in congestion, which also disrupts visitors, tourists and those who are in a hurry to catch flights.
With domestic tourism in full stream, vehicles parked outside the casino outside the coast in the state capital also creates disorders and obstacles.
Meena said that he also asked the police station to identify at least one or two places where the surrounding clock personnel could be deployed to avoid unwanted incidents during the tourism season.
“We have provided new vehicles to the police control room, and this is used to patrol,” he said.
DGP said that while there was no increase in the theft cases in the state, the level of detection of such cases was satisfactory.
