WHO says more working hours resulting in premature deaths!

Many studies have noted that individuals are now getting more hours and confronting larger workloads throughout COVID.
The’always on’ syndrome only adds to the total stress.
Individuals are operating through illness, carrying smaller dinner breaks, in truth mainly eating while exercising.
At a recent report, the World Health Organization (WHO) shared that individuals working for more periods are at greater risks of coronary cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Tilak Suvarna, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai shared,”Extended hours are a significant health threat and are proven to be associated with greater risk of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and stroke.
The probable causes of the higher risk associated with longer length of work are Less period for exercise or physical action, which decreases the chance of cardiovascular disease, irregular work hours that means intermittent food timings and unhealthy eating habits and greater levels of psychological strain, which can be a possible risk factor for heart attack and stroke”
Additionally, extended hours of operating accounts for approximately one-third of their overall estimated work-related load of illness and has been demonstrated as a comparatively new risk factor for occupational illness.
“The aforementioned factors are amplified throughout the present Covid-19 outbreak, with a huge majority of individuals restricted to working out of their houses.
The bounds between houses and offices are very blurred.
There are no predetermined intervals of formal work.
Workers are expected to be more in beck and call at strange hours.
With a growing amount of lay-offs, the rest of the staff are overburdened with work.
Therefore, alongwith with COVID-related motives per se, more working hours might well lead to a surge of cardiovascular disease,” added Dr Tilak.
