Ghaziabad: Iron Obstacles Established with Some Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) stretches may have discussed Jaywalking problems but illegal parking from tricycle near the Noida 62 area and the CISF area in the corridor still remains a problem.
The National Highway Authority (NHAI) which regulates obstacles has written to the authorities of Ghaziabad and Noida urges them to distribute land for tricycle parking.
But nothing was done so far, officials said.
According to Nhai, parking and tricycle movements will not be permitted in a 50 m stretch on both sides of the toll road.
“The area near Noida Sector 62 is famous for Jaywalking.
But Nhai has taken care of it and installed iron obstacles to the median DME so that people cannot jump to the other side of the road.
It also builds the bridge, equipped with an elevator, in the area,” said Mudit Garg , Project director, NHAI.
“But the illegal parking lot on both sides of the toll road remains a problem.
We have written a number of letters to Noida and Ghaziabad authorities.
This problem needs to be completed before DME is formally inaugurated, which is likely to occur within one month,” he added.
Garg said they had identified land that could be used for tricycle parking.
“We can’t let the tricycle within 50 m Dme.
We have identified two patches, each on the Ghaziabad and Noida side.
While the 500 square meter plot near the 62 Noida sector has been intended by us, the plot on the other sides of 1,000 meters Square and near Shipra Mall, “he added.
“If the area is developed and well managed, the tricycle can avoid DME and use an underpass,” said the official.
Officials of the Ghaziabad Traffic Department said they were driving awareness for tricycle drivers.
“Random parking creates traffic jams and it also places commuters at risk,” said Ramanand Kushwaha, SP Traffic, Ghaziabad.
“In the past week, we have confiscated more than 160 tricycles.
We will do more drives like that,” he added.
An official from the Ghaziabad District Administration said they were looking for Nhai’s advice.
“We are working on plans to develop a parking lot for tricycle near Shipra Mall,” he said.
Gokul Singh, a car driver who uses the area every day, says because there is no designated parking lot, they stop every time they see passengers and it often creates congestion in a high-speed corridor.
“On the side of Noida, a vehicle traveling from the Pratap Vihar side departs near the roundabout and which only adds congestion,” Singh added.
Nhai has established iron barriers in the 62 NOID sector, Shani Mandir near Chijarsi and Vijay Nagar stretched DME.
They are 5 feet high built on a 3-foot concrete slab.
