Why no magic pill for Covid-19

New Delhi: Every wave of Pandemic Covid-19 has a star narcotics share promising potential drugs.
While the first wave has everything starting from malaria drugs to antivirus, the second has remdesivir.
In the middle of the third wave, there are monoclonal antibodies and antiviral drugs called Molnupiravir.
This drug is very popular, even though the benefits are limited.
Monoclonal antibodies are molecules developed in the laboratory designed to emulate or increase the response to the natural immune system against invaders, such as cancer or infection.
SARS COV2, a virus that causes covid, has a surge protein on its surface that helps viruses stick to human cells.
Monoclonal antibodies have been developed to tie a protein to surge the virus and prevent it from invading human cells.

Novel Coronavirus.Dr Sumit Ray, Chief of Critical Care, Holy Family Hospital, said monoclonal antibodies available in India were not effective against the omicron variant of Coronavirus.
“We have used it in six or seven patients, most of them suffer from covids caused by Delta variants,” he said.
For this, Dr.
Rajesh Malhotra, head of the AIIMS trauma center, added that monoclonal antibodies have proven effective in the initial treatment of delta infections by preventing serious complications and deaths, especially in elderly patients or patients with comorbidity.
However, because Omicron has demonstrated the ability of immune hitch, the meaning of resistance to vaccines and antibodies, monoclonal antibodies is not effective.
“There is no reason to use this in the current wave,” said Malhotra.
“The only combination antibody treatment for Omicron is Evusheld and Sotrovimab.” Molnupiravir is a new molecule that acts with the genetic virus genetic material and stops replication by causing mutations, explaining Dr Neeraj Nischal, additional medical professors, AIIMS.
“The population subset where the trial was carried out during Delta waves only showed a small risk reduction in hospitalization, translated, therefore, with simple benefits in today’s real world scenario (omicron wave) to the potential toxicity that can be caused by the patient.,” He said.
