Nagpur: Highlighting the deterioration of civil facilities even after privatizing various works including water, solid waste management and public transportation, a Sangharsh NGO Vahini has placed a question mark for the role of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
Sangharsh Vahini arranged the seminar on how the government itself had to function and the assignment of selected representatives for Uplift City.
In a press statement, the NGO water resources department said water to all local bodies at the Re1 per unit level.
NMC entrusted water supply and operations to private companies – Air Orange City (OCW) and Civic’s body were filling RS16 per unit from residents.
Every year, NMC increases the water rate of 5% only to help private companies grow, NGOs allegedly.
NGOs also attract attention to the Aapli bus services provided by NMC through private operators.
However, public transportation conditions are not satisfactory.
Similar is a problem with solid waste management.
Previously, there was only one company to manage affairs.
Now NMC has replaced the old company with two companies.
Instead of increasing everyday garbage collection, the management of city-dense waste has deteriorated, said Sangharsh Vahini.
“It is true that despite the privatization of all these services, the NMC has not received additional income and vice versa with deteriorating services, the liability increases,” said Adewar Mukund from Sangharsh Vahini.
Other speaker members and members of Vahini Dinanath Waghmare asked what City had achieved in the last 15 years on behalf of development? About 36% of people are below the poverty line and live in slums.
Loss of basic rights.
Of the 231 schools in Nagpur City, 83 was closed and 68 were on the verge of closing due to the government’s apathy, he was suspected.
Other speakers Pradip Gaikwad claims that the ongoing development works like Metro, Cement road, as heavy as Nagpur and reduces the lives of residents with 5 years.
On the other hand, the authorities insisted on cutting down more than 2,500 trees at the Ajni Van to build a commercial and mal-mall complexes in the name of development, he said.
The speaker also questioned the generation of bad Civic community income.
NGOs show that NMC has projected income from RS2,500 Crore from the city, has a population of more than 30 lakh, while Pune with a population of 34 lakh has an income of RS7,600 Crore.
The city of Nashik, with a population of 15 lakh, has an income of RS2,600 Crore, even though it has almost half the population compared to Nagpur.
Prabhakar Mandhare’s NGO member appealed to residents to remain vigilant and opposed any injustice.
