Picking the right course after class XII has a greater impact on a student’s life.
Uncertainty due to COVID-19 and rising competition has made the situation tougher for students to make a wise career decision, without wasting much time.
“Most industries are looking for more specialists across all domains including management, technology, and law, among others.
Hence, the students today must become more conscious of their career choices,” says Dheeraj Sharma, director, IIM Rohtak that offers Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) and an integrated Programme in Law (IPL).
“Integrated programme is one of the best options for the students to train and develop themselves in a specific domain of their interest,” adds Sharma.

“It offers a chance to pick two different courses or subjects which widens the horizons.
The students can blend a combination of subjects such as social science with law or Information Technology with other core subjects.
This is an excellent opportunity for the students to connect better with the industry demands and enhance skills in their respective domains,” says Alok Mishra, dean, Kirit P Mehta School of Law, NMIMS Deemed to be University, Mumbai.
The institute offers integrated programmes BA LLB and BBA LLB that combine core humanities with the knowledge of law and business studies along with legal knowledge.
Integrating benefits
“The major difference between the integrated programme and other undergraduate programmes is in terms of curriculum.
There is no direct repetition of course material between bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Thus, integrated programmes take the students to the next level and save them from appearing for any entrance test after undergraduate.
They can seamlessly continue to pursue the programme in the same institute,” says Sharma.
This includes extensive internships, simulations, live projects, seminars, and other case-based studies.
It helps students to save their time, money and create a well-trained pool of professionals in a comparatively shorter period, Mishra adds.
Combining management and law
“The global business environment has become dynamic involving cross-cultural and cross-domain business integration.
Thus, there is huge demand coming up for specialised individuals with legal expertise in the domain of arbitrations, contracts, intellectual property rights, building business relationships across the border and engaging in international interactions, etc,” says Sharma.
“The combination of law and management make students to learn subjects such as Human Resource Management, Accounting, Statistics and their influence and interdependence on Law.
Additionally, they also get an exposure to critical thinking, legal writing, moot court internship etc.
which help them to groom as a better professional,” explains Mishra.
Inclination towards law education
Economic liberalisation, says Mishra, has increased the demand for experts.
“Various new laws such as financial regulations, fintech, business, farm laws to name a few have come up and got revised in last 5-10 years.
This has increased the demand for experts at various levels, creating more opportunities for students across the country.
“Thanks to CBSE for offering Legal Studies as an optional subject at class XI-XII that offers a very early exposure and basic ideas about the subject to those who are willing to join the profession,” says Mishra, highlighting the increase in applicants for various law-related competitive examinations explains the rising inclination towards law courses.
