New Delhi: rebuilding MeharChand market has reached a roadblock because of a lack of clarity on the extension of the shop upstairs that will cover the common areas.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) was in November 2020 approved the standard arrangement of the facade controls the market, increase the floor area ratio (far) from 100 to 350.
Meanwhile, traders were allowed to build a basement, ground, first and second, do not allow the Civic Body extension upstairs.
“Last year, the shopkeepers put forward new proposals that ask companies to enter the home page in the shop area on the top floor,” said Lt Col BK Oberoi (Retd), Chairman, Standing Committee.
Store owners even agreed to pay a common veranda in front of their stores, in addition to the cost for the extra distance, so long as they are allowed to make the extension in the first and second floor.
SDMC then prepare a fresh image and forwards it to the city planning department.
The proposal will be presented at the next meeting of the Standing Committee on Jan.

However, Oberoi indicated, there is confusion about whether the general homepage is part of the main roads or provide access to the general public.
“City Planning Department has been asked to verify details with the original plan.
If berveriandah width of 8 feet is part of the way, we can not provide space for the shop owner for personal use,” he said.
He added that a meeting will be held with the merchant before the proposed project in the standing committee meeting.
“We want all the buildings in the market looks like.
Because of the cost of construction and augmentation will be borne by the merchant, we will ask them about the preparations and their plans,” said Oberoi.
The main commercial center Meharchand market situated near Lodhi colony.
According to the plan approved, all existing structures should be demolished to make way for a new building, with all the rebuilding costs borne by the traders.
It is also planned to be declared as “pedestrian shopping street” due to unavailability of parking facilities.
