It seems like there might be a ‘problem’ for Apple as a medical technology company accusing breaking its patent.
Masimo, a company that specializes in the monitoring feature of noninvasive patients has said that Apple Watch Series 6 violates its five patents specifically associated with measuring blood oxygen.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Masimo has said that patented technology uses light transmitted through the body to check blood oxygen levels, something that has been copied by Apple.
In complaints to the US International Trade Commission, Masimo said that I wanted Imports of Apple Watch to be banned in the US.
In complaints, medical technology companies say that Apple ‘Markets’ watches as medical devices with features such as blood oxygen monitoring.
“Apple is very marketing the series 6 feature to provide a watch of the appearance of a medical device,” Masimo said in archiving.
“However, hidden from millions of series 6 buyers, Apple warns in fine mold that blood oxygen measurements should not be relied upon for medical purposes.” What happens next? The Bloomberg report states that the patent has been reviewed by the US trademark patent and office.
Apple argues that they do not cover new discoveries and this case is detained until all patent reviews are completed.
The US International Trade Commission, according to the report, generally takes around 15 to 18 months to resolve its investigation.
This is not the first time Masimo has a problem with Apple and a watch.
In 2020, the company had submitted a case against Apple accusing “stealing trade secrets” with the pretext of working relationships between the two.
