Why violence swallowed South Africa

JOHANNESBURG: The days of riots and looting in South Africa have left more than 70 people, hurting thousands of businesses and damaging the main infrastructure in some of the worst civil riots since the end of the white minority government in 1994.
What drives violence? Zuma prison.
The unrest began after former President Jacob Zuma surrendered last week to start a 15-month prison sentence for the court insult.
Zuma supporters, who believed he was a victim of the hunt for political wizards, burned tires and roads blocked in his homes in KwaZulu-Natal.
Support for Zuma partly comes from its image as a man from people for nine years in power until 2018, and because some sees prison as an attack on the largest ethnic group in the country, Zulu.
Although many South Africans who are rich and the middle class are very happy when Zuma is overthrown after several Sleaze accusations and grafts, he still maintains the saying of the saying at KwaZulu-Christmas and several rural areas.
His support among the population reflects the distribution in the Ruling African National Congress (ANC), where the Pro-Zuma faction opposes his replacement of his replacement of Cyril Ramaphosa.
Poverty, inequality of difficulties that lasted 27 years after the expiration of Apartheid was the main reason why hundreds of shops and dozens of malls were stripped.
The statistical body data shows that about half of the 35 million adults this country lives below the poverty line and that young people are influenced by unemployment.
South Africa has one of the highest level of inequality in the world according to the gini index that is commonly used, with “double economics” serving small elites, mostly white and large, especially the majority of black.
Moving by ANC, which has been regulated since the beginning of a democratic government, to distribute land and wealth has grown slowly.
Covid-19Covid-19 has worsened poverty, with a recent survey showing a sharp increase in hunger.
Official unemployment reached a record high above 32% in the first three months of 2021.
Although the government increases social grants for pandemic pillows, it is unable to match expensive leave schemes from richer countries.
Criminalpolition elements say some criminals have taken advantage of anger over the imprisonment of Zuma to steal and cause destruction.
So far more than 1,200 people are arrested.
Message inflammation to commit violence with inflammatory comments and social media posts, security officials said.
Two people draw criticism are spokesman Zuma’s Charitable Foundation, Mzwanele Maniyi, which connects several initial acts of violence against “correct anger”, and Zuma Duduzile’s daughter.
Manyi tells Reuters that violence can be avoided and that the way in which 79-year-old Zuma was imprisoned reminding people in the apartheid period.
Duduzile name bearing account has repeatedly posted pictures and videos of protests and violence on Twitter with a rally “Amandla!” Crying (Power!) Used during the struggle for liberation.
Reuters has not been able to contact him to verify him posting the messages.
ANC said it was related to tweets and members of the Duduzile party must explain to themselves.
