Thane: Leopard has been seen in about some housing complexes and industries in the Vartak Nagar area which borders the Sanjay Gandhi National Park side by side during the last three nights, said forest officials on Friday.
Although there are no reports of attacks on humans or pets, the frequent spots have raised concern among the population and authorities.
Following the instructions from Girija Desai Patil, Assistant Conservator Forest Officer, a team led by more Sandeep, officers, forest office range Thane; Ashok Patascar, Round Officer, Dattatray Pawar, Beat Officer Kolshet intensified the patrol and also established a camera to trap the wildcat movement in the area.
The first leopard selection was reported by a security staff of a company in Vartak Nagar who saw him run past the main gate on Wednesday clock.
“CCTV footage showed guards to the gate just to return to fear after seeing the leopard outside.
The guard warned his colleague when the leopard was seen running away.
Other cameras around him also showed a cat movement,” said Rakesh Bhoir, additional forest officer range, Thane.
The next morning, the leopard was seen in the neighboring housing complex.
Spotting Third reported by slums Bhim Nagar around Thursday night after the police and forest team along with Rohit Mohite, the Warden of Forest Thane and Nitesh Activist Pancholi explored the area until Friday morning.
“We could not find the leopard but installed a camera to track his movements.
There was no reason for fear but we attracted the population and especially security staff deployed on night assignments to remain vigilant and did not dare outside alone and warn us if they saw a wildcat,” Sandeep, Forest Office, Range, Thane.
Pancholi said spotted leopard in Thane that sharing boundaries with forests was not infrequently and attractive to residents to maintain cleanliness in their society and remind the authorities in the appearance.
