Coimbatore: Residents seem to live in the fear of attacking wild dogs in many parts of the city.
Some people, who talked to Toi, said they were afraid of walking in the morning and evening, and ride a two-wheeled vehicle at night, when the wild dogs ran towards them with barks that were unrelenting.
The growth of wild dogs that are not checked on city streets must be blamed for the current scenario.
Abdul Rashid, a new resident of Rose Park, said wild dogs posed with a real threat to them.
In the area, a wild dog has pursued a boy and biting him recently, instilling fear of children.
“We have made several representations to the City Corporation to overcome the increase in wild dog threats, but officials have not done anything so far.
Many dogs can be seen on the streets at a certain time point,” he said.
“The dogs are not a threat to residents, but they pursue strangers, especially motorists.
However, we cannot stand barking and howling at night, therefore seizes us to sleep well.” The dogs mainly feed the garbage faced occupants in the trash can on the roadside.
While some residents used to feed them at first, they had stopped equal to the number of wild dogs had increased.
“They started fighting with each other when we tried to feed them,” said a resident.
G Lakshmi, another resident of VG Rao Nagar, said the threat of wild dogs could be reduced significantly by cleaning the trash can regularly.
“Dogs can be seen near the trash of most of the time, looking for food.” A health official with the Civic body said they did not carry out animal birth control programs in recent years due to new rules that only allowed licensed NGOs to carry out processes.
“We have two sterilization centers, one on the ondipudur and others in Seerandangencepalaryam.
Only one NGO is advanced to take sterilization so far.
We are looking for another NGO to run animal birth control programs.
We hope to lower the numbers in a few months.
Meanwhile, a while, Studies to count the number of wild dogs will be carried out, “officials told toi.
