Udhagamandalam: A eight-day wildlife census (pre-monsoon) started at the buffer zone of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) at the Nilgiris on Thursday.
The census could insure prey base and plant, aside from carnivores and other creatures, at Singara, Sigur along with North East Slope ranges.
Kanthan, forest range officer, stated,”There are 38 transect lines over the 3 ranges from the buffer zone along with as most groups are deployed to perform the census” Only forest area officials and workers are roped in to the poll, which often entails volunteers also.
Range officials could track the census, that will be mandatorily held biannually from all of the tiger reserves.
The data gathered during the census could be transmitted into the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
Even the pre-monsoon wildlife census has been held in the MTR center zone for seven times from May 20.
