Washington: The day after US health officials on Wednesday recommended Americans to get a booster shot eight months after the second modern dose or Pfizer vaccine, President Joe Biden said he and his wife will get a Covid-19 booster shot in December.
The President told ABC “Good Morning America” that “past” for him to get a booster.
US health officials said it was “very clear” vaccine protection against infections reduced from time to time.
They announced plans to issue a Covid-19 booster shot to all Americans to sustain their protection against the soaring Delta variant.
The dose can start 20 weeks September.
Meanwhile, the African Director of the World Health Organization sharply criticized the decision by several richer countries to launch a Covid-19 booster shot.
Matshidiso Meti said the decision “threatened the promise of a brighter tomorrow for Africa”.
He added, “Because some rich countries hoard vaccines, they make ridicule of vaccine equity.” MIETI and Africa centers for disease control and prevention have warned of booster shots because less than 2% of the African population of 1.3 billion people are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The situation in Africa remains “very fragile” because the Delta variant is more contagious dominant in most of the 54 continental countries, he said.
Africa has reported around 7.3 million cases and more than 186,000 confirmed deaths.
