Kolkata: The State Election Commission in a written statement for the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday stated its decision, consulting with the state government, to hold a city poll in the phase that began with Kolkata and Howrah.
Affidavit SEC for the Chairman of the Prakash Shrivastava Judge was in response to the petition submitted by BJP leader Pratap Banerjee praying for city elections one day throughout the state.
In his petition, Banerjee urged that vote counting was held in one day even if the selection was held in the phase.
The SEC told the court that he wanted to hold a civilian poll to Kolkata and Howrah first because most of the population of the two cities had received a Covid vaccine shot.
HC will hear this problem some time next week.
