Kolkata: The State Election Commission in a written statement for the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday stated its decision, consulting with the state government, to hold a city poll in the phase that began with Kolkata and Howrah.
Affidavit SEC for the Chairman of the Prakash Shrivastava Judge was in response to the petition submitted by BJP leader Pratap Banerjee praying for city elections one day throughout the state.
In his petition, Banerjee urged that vote counting was held in one day even if the selection was held in the phase.
The SEC told the court that he wanted to hold a civilian poll to Kolkata and Howrah first because most of the population of the two cities had received a Covid vaccine shot.
HC will hear this problem some time next week.
In the afternoon, the Commissioner of the Election of the State calls for the Governor of Bengal in Raj Bhavan, the day after the former holds all party meetings in the upcoming Civic poll.
Then, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted: “During a meeting for one hour with the commissioner of the West Bengal Sourist Das state, the governor stressed that the SEC in his authority was equivalent to the Indian General Election Commission and it should be non-partisan, independent and effective and not an extension of the government.
“The Western Bengal State Election Act, 1994, stipulates that the SEC will have the power to” supervisor, direction …
the behavior of the city poll “like that from the Election Commission.
Section 8 of the law empowers the state government to issue election notices through consultation with the SEC.
