Guwahati: The Transport Minister Assam Chandra Mohan Patowary on Thursday said the inter-district bus tariff would not be permitted to increase from September 1, as it was decided by all Assam Motorcycle Transport Associations (AAMTA), citing the effect of Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking with the media, said Minister, “Bus rates will not be permitted to increase due to the financial conditions of ordinary people who are not healthy today.
Ordinary people travel through public transportation.
Many people will not continue their business or have lost their personal work because of a pandemic.
So, the increase in the bus fare will affect them.
“Pradip Das, Secretary General of Aamta, told TII that the statement of the Minister of Transportation about the bus fare was unacceptable.
“Personal operators run 20,000 passenger service buses in the state.
Aound 11 people directly or indirectly depend on him.
Continuous increase in the price of essential kitchens, fuel and LPG cylinders have affected the bus operator too,” he said.
