‘Will take steps to stop the Mekedatu project’

Chennai: Minister of Water Resources Tamil Nadu S Duraimurugan on Wednesday said the state government would take all steps to stop the Karnataka Government’s Mekedatu Dam project “in the legal framework”.
In a statement, Duraimurugan said the state government would strongly oppose the efforts of the Karnataka government to build a dam in Mekedatu or elsewhere.
“In the letter to the Minister of Chief Karnataka, Chairman of the Minister of Tamil Nadu urged him not to pursue the Dam Mekedatu project because he would endanger the interests of farmers who depend on Cauvery’s water to grow the short-term curuvai and long-term samba harvest in the lakh of the state,” said Minister Senior.
Duraimurugan responded to Yediyurappa’s statement in Bengaluru on Tuesday that his government would implement the project “in the legal framework” and no one could stop it.
