Chennai: Two days after depression above Bay Bay caused disaster in Chennai, IMD said the new low pressure system was formed above the South Andaman Sea and side by side with Thai Beach around 8.30 in the morning on Saturday.
In the Peensya Bulletin, the IMD said the system tended to move the west-northwest and concentrate into depression above the North Andaman Sea and side by side with the Bay of Southeast Bengal on November 15.
“Then it will likely continue to move towards the northwest, farther and reaching near the coast of Andhra Pradesh around November 18,” said the agency.
Private forecasters said while it might bring a heavy spell on the coast of Andhra Pradesh, it would likely eliminate Chennai because only a few mild spells were expected above Tamil Nadu Utara.
However, they said the weather model showed that the system might intensify into the cyclone because it traveled to the coast of Andhra Pradesh but it might weaken so near the beach.
This can cause lower moving systems in latitude to bring rainfall to Tamil Nadu and Chennai.
But it may not be strong and destructive because the rainfall experienced by the city in the last six days.
