LONDON: ONS JABEUR, the first Arab woman to win the WTA tournament, reached the third round of Wimbledon for the first time on Wednesday beating five-time Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0.
Williams followed his sister Serena came out of a single tournament even though she would play with Nick Kyrgios in a mixed double.
Serena protected the central court with tears on Tuesday after injuring her right foot in the first set of matches.
“It’s too much.
I just can’t watch it,” said Venus who didn’t want to expand the seriousness of his sister’s injury.
JABEUR, who made history in winning the Birmingham WTA tournament earlier this month, will play Spain 2017 Wimbledon Champion Garbine Muguruza for somewhere in 16.
“Honestly I was very nervous, first I played legend and not everyone with me today but it is Great game, “Jabeur said 26 years old.
“My slices of games etc.
run well with the surface of the grass.
I enjoyed it here I can dive whenever I like it.
Hope I can continue my journey.” Garbina Muguruza is a tough player and plays on the grass.
“I did the quarter-finals at the Australian Open (2020) and I wanted to do better than that.” The convenience owned by JABEUR through the second set of 41-year-old America is in stark contrast to the tight opening set that lasted 52 minutes.
JABEUR Solving Williams in the first first game of the second set set a break point with a beautiful cross court forehand and securing a break when Williams sent a wide forehand.
The fight seems to have come out of Williams when JABEUR raises the game and solves Americans again in the next service game and then again serve the match.
Williams did have a break point but Jabeur fought and won the match at his first match point.
Williams did not wabble into the crowd when he walked facing rocky but after that said he had no retirement.
“I don’t think anyone in life has something to be proven, you know,” he said.
“Everyone can only breathe for themselves.” No one has something to be proven to anyone in this life.
“The only thing you have to do is pay your tax or you will be imprisoned.” Williams said he played for a simple reason that it was the thing that made him feel the happiest.
As for when he might retire he remains Cagey.
“Yes, when this is the last, I’ll let you know.
I’ll give you a little whisper in your ear,” he said.
