GROS ISLET: Young Trinidad and Tobago pacer Jayden Seales was appointed from the West Indies’ 17-member provisional group to its two-match Test series against South Africa, beginning here on Thursday.
The group is expected to be cut to a official 13-member determined by Monday.
The Selection Panel announced that pacer Chemar Holder was not unavailable for selection because of injury.
“Quick bowler Chemar Holder was inaccessible because of injury while 19-year-old quick bowler Jayden Seales is an first time addition from the West Indies provisional group to get a Test Series,” a Cricket West Indies (CWI) media release stated.
Even the 19-year-old Seales has played with just 10 professional matches so much — just one first class game, three Listing A matches along with six T20s.
Seales had caught the limelight with all the white-ball in the Under-19 World Cup this past year.
In addition, he impressed at the intra-squad game before this week, requiring 4 to 40 in the next innings.
Creating a comeback into the 17-member group were openers Shai Hope and Kieran Powell along with all-rounder Roston Chase, that weren’t a part of their home Test series against Sri Lanka.
Jamaican speedster Marquino Mindley, that had regained from COVID-19 a week, will stay at St Lucia together with fellow pacers Keon Harding, Preston McSween and Nial Smith to”help the Evaluation group with their preparations”.
The 2 Tests will be performed in the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground for the Sir Vivian Richards Trophy on June 10-14 and June 18-22.
These would be the last games in the present cycle of this ICC World Test Championship together with the two teams hoping to complete higher in the last Championship table.
