Winter is in but the price of vegetables is still hot

Bhubaneswar: Winters usually see the market stockpiled with fresh green vegetables available at affordable prices.
But this year, vegetable prices remain expensive even in cold winter.
Vendors blame the rains and delay Kharif harvest because most of the green remains out of the reach of the general public.
“Vegetables are never expensive in winter.
The price of seasonal vegetables is also high.
At this time the large number of tomatoes, cauliflower, nuts, cabbage, capsicum, carrots and radishes are usually available at low prices.
But this year, prices are higher than The summer months.
We have reduced the consumption of vegetables because of soaring prices, “said Madhusmita Rout, a housewife.
Although tomato prices slightly down and now sell at Rs 50 per kg, the price of other vegetables is still very high.
Cauliflowers costs Rs 40 to 50 per piece, while cabbage is available at Rs 50 per piece.
RS 70-80 seed seeds per kg, carrot RS 50 and capsicum available at Rs 80-100 per kg.
Summer vegetables such as bitter pumps, pumpkin and okra ridge are available above Rs 80 per kg, while parval and drums are being sold at Rs 100-120 per kg.
“We are helpless.
Because we bought at a very high price, we were forced to sell it at a higher level.
People have significantly reduced vegetable consumption because of price increases.
This has continued over the past few months,” said Kartik Sahu, Vegetable vendors in Unit-1 market here.
Debendra Sahu, Secretary of the Chhatra Bazar Daily Market, Cuttack, said, “Heavy rain, triggered by Typhoon Jawad, a large damage to harvest land in the state, which leads to lack and price increases.
Even the inflows of neighboring countries have dropped.
Harvest Fresh at the end of January is expected if no rain further happens.
This can provide assistance to consumers.
“The Jawad cyclone triggered heavy rain in most parts of Odisha in the first week of December which was damaged by harvest plants.
“We plant fresh plants after rain damaging ready-made products.
We are worried because there are more rainy estimates.
It can affect the remaining plants too,” said Naresh Sahu, a farmer.
