Bhubaneswar: vacancies in various teaching and non-teaching post universities of Odisha (CUO), Coraput, are among the worst in around 45 central universities throughout the country.
Cuo only has 17 regular teachers for 14 departments with the strength of students totaling 950.
According to a written reply by the Minister of Education Union Dharmendra Pradhan in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 137 of the 154 Post Teachers lying at the university, which is around 89% lack of staff.
Among the non-teaching posts, 93 of 115 posts or 80% empty posts.
The Cuo situation is far worse than the national average with the same 32% teachings and 37% of non-teaching posts are currently lying empty at all central universities.
Responding to questions by Neeraj Shekhar, RS members from Uttar Pradesh, Pradhan said that arising from vacancies and charging them was a sustainable process.
As on April 1, 2021, for two central universities recently made – Central University of Andhra Pradesh and Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh – Post not yet subject to sanctions.
Among the remaining 44 universities, at all 6,136 of the 18,911 sanction teacher posts and 13,706 of 36,351 non-teaching posts were empty.
Established in 2009, Cuo is the only central university in Odisha.
Among the nine other central universities founded in the same year in Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, vacancies in teaching posts range from 23% (Tamil Nadu) up to 58% (Kashmir) ).
Vacancies in non-teaching posts range from 21% in Kerala up to 84% in Gujarat.
A Cuo official said the University had extinguished advertisements for the recruitment of 82 teachers in 2019.
