Gurugram: With the arrival of a close winter, some migration bird species came to Sultanpur National Park, which on Monday opened for visitors for the first time this year with a treat.
Birders see 65 species of birds migrating in the park.
It has 25 species of current population.
According to experts, most of the migration species seen in the park are water birds because of the extended rainy season this year.
Some of the birds seen on Monday are Geese-headed bar and greylag, North Pintail and Green Winged Teal.
Gray-headed lapwing looked a week ago in the park, a rare incident in Delhi-NCR.
“At present, there are around more than 35,000 birds in the sanctuary.
We also have a floating bird population,” said Sanjay Sharma, a bird expert in the park.
“More migration birds will arrive in the park in the coming days.
Every year, the park witnesses more than 250 species of domestic birds during the winter,” he added.
Migrating water birds seen in the winter park including North Soven, Pintail, Gadwall, Grebe, General Teal and Goose Pygmy cotton.
The park has become greener with dense forests because it was closed for 19 months because Covid-19, according to the park official.
Now has three water bodies.
One of them is a natural lake of 150 hectares, while the other two have been made by the Department of Wildlife.
The second spread across two hectares of land, while the third is five hectares.
“More water bodies will attract more water birds to the park,” said a wildlife official.
Sultanpur National Park was appointed as the Ramsar site, an important international wetland, in May this year.
The park has put certain limits at this time because of a pandemic.
Only 20 people or less allowed in place for three hours.
Meanwhile, only those who wear masks and show off Covid symptoms that will be allowed to enter the park after they are found marked ‘secure’ in the Aarogya Setu mobile application.
Birders are happy to be able to visit the park.
“Restrictions of 20 people will help reduce the crowd in the park, and thus birds will not be disturbed because there are too many human presence,” said Pankaj Gupta, a border official of Delhi’s Society.
In winter, a large number of birds fly millions of miles to reach wetlands here to rest and feed, Park staff said.
Migration birds that are often categorized as parks can be widely categorized as waders, which depend on shallow water, singing platforms and ducks.
“This year’s sighting is good at Delhi-NCR.
Many rare birds are seen in this region during a pandemic,” said M Mallik, a wildlife conservator, Gurugram.
