With falling cases, k’taka can reduce daily testing targets

Bengaluru: Because the case of Covid-19 fresh has decreased and the leading level of the test has been below 0.5% for some time now, Karnataka is likely to reduce its daily testing target.
At present, the government has mandated 1.5 lakh test a day, but only around 1.2 lakh is done.
The source said the problem decomposition problems were discussed at the State Technical Advisory Committee meeting (TAC), which suggested the government to manage Covid-19, on Sundays.
Experts discuss the difficulties associated with testing, and, considering the changed scenario, it has recommended that the government reduce the number of tests.
The source said the number of tests could now be reduced by 26% to 1.1 lakh.
However, the government has not issued official orders.
Even if the test is reduced, 10% of the total test will continue to be carried out in children.
While the RT-PCR method must be 70% of all tests, mice will consist of the rest.
As practiced, mice will not be used in asymptomatic people, said source.
In Bengaluru, the test number will continue to be around 50,000 a day, suggestions suggest.
“The use of the word ‘target’ for testing needs to be reconsidered,” TAC member said.
“To achieve the target, health workers ask random people to be tested.
This does not produce the desired supervision results.” The source said health workers could not be blamed because they scrambled to find people with symptoms now the case has fallen.
“In four districts, despite reaching the test target, the case has been zero or one day.
It’s time to reduce the number of tests,” said the source.
Only two districts – Chikkamagaluru and Hassan – have had more than 1% participation in the last seven days (October 2-8), in accordance with the data of the Covid Country War room.
“In all other districts, test positivity less than 1% and the average country during the last week has 0.4%,” said experts, showing that it was difficult to expect health workers to collect swab samples when there were only a few cases.
Because of its low progress, the Ministry of Health staff is collecting samples and testing it.
“Pool testing allows the use of testing infrastructure, but to collect many swab samples, staff must include a lot of hard work.
They are tired,” experts said.
But not below 1 lakh However, Dr.
CN Manjunath, Nodal State officer for Covid-19 testing, said the number of tests could be reduced but must continue to be more than one lakh per day throughout the country.
“The current target is one lakh.
It can be revised but I feel you still have to keep one lakh,” he said.
He admitted personnel on the ground facing problems finding symptomatic people and there were also doubts to take the test.
“We have seen vaccine doubts, and now we see doubts undergo Covid tests, even when people have symptoms,” Dr.
Manjunath said.
“Because of the rain, many people suffer from fever, cough, and cold.
However, even if nine out of 10 negative for Covid, we must continue to test because we will still take a Covid case.” Dr.
V Ravi, Virology, said the testing strategy was very clear : It only has to focus on people with symptoms.
“Everyone with Covid symptoms must be tested.
Focused testing is the need for hours,” he said.
