Pune: The Maharashtra government on Wednesday issued official notifications that combined 23 villages around the city with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), making it the largest civil body in the state.
The total area of the PMC was 518SQKM against the previous 334SQKM.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area is around 440sQkm.
Unlike the previous merger, all 23 suburban villages spread across 184.61SQKM, including Wagholi, Khadakwasla and Pisoli, have been “fully” included in the PMC limit, said the notification of the Urban Development Department issued under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporate Act, 1949.
The population in the PMC area is estimated to increase four lakh after the merger.
According to the district government letter submitted to the state government in January 2014, these villages then have a population of 1.98 lakh.
The decision to combine 34 suburban villages in civilians was taken in 2013-14, but only 11 (nine partially and two entirely) was included in the PMC limit in 2017.
This time, “the whole area of the village income” has been included in the PMC limit.
About 900 residents have filed a suggestion / objection to the concept of state notification on 23 December 2020 to enter the village.
Most objections have stated that the inclusion of these villages within city limits will further emphasize the administration of the PMC.
