Panaji: Chairman of the Minister of Pramod Sawant on Saturday lay down the foundation stone for Goa Bazaar at Merces which will function as a platform for around 20,000 women throughout the state to sell their products.
The Ministry of Finance has not provided expenditure sanctions for this project.
Rural Development Minister Michael Lobo was not present for his functions.
Sawant said that GO Bazar Mahila Mall will have a complex basket and a food court and that women will be able to show off and sell food and other products.
He also said that this was the first step in making Sawyampurna women.
Sawant added that when the consultant said that the project would be completed in one and a half years.
The minister’s chairman said that the work will be produced from this project and that women do not need to pay rent to sell their products in Goa Bazar.
He added, “All women in Goa must think that it is their mall.” The project which is estimated to reach Rs 48 Crore will be executed by the rural development agency.
Lobo told Tii that his department had received Rs 4 Crore for this project in 2000 from the trade union government and since then the money was in the bank.
He said that with interest in Rs 4 Crore increased to RS17 Crore.
Lobo also said that when the project could not be started, the state government had to return funds but with his initiative he received permission from the city and state planning department to fill the low laying area and also received sanctions for the TNN project.
