MUMBAI: A 50-year-old woman was arrested after she murdered a man who had touched her while she was asleep on a pavement at Dahisar early on Sunday.
The woman, Sangeeta Bhoir, had walked out of her marital home in Khadavli after a dispute with her husband and had moved to Dahisar.
The incident was reported around 2am near Rawalpada junction on SS Dube Road.
“Bhoir was new to the area and would stay on the pavement.
Dilip Vyas, a 51-year-old local resident, had noticed her asleep on the pavement a couple of times.
That day he tried to wake her up and ask her to leave.
His action enraged Bhoir who thought he was molesting her,” a police official said.
Bhoir picked up stones and assaulted Vyas on the head with it.
He suffered head injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Vyas was employed as a driver.
His son pressed charges against Bhoir.
Another case of murder was reported at Dahisar’s Ketkipada on Sunday night.
Mangesh Gaikwad, a 30-year-old auto driver, was arrested for slashing his uncle, Vinayak Gaikwad, to death with a razor blade.
Vinayak worked as a labourer.
Police said Mangesh’s sister was married to one of Vinayak’s nephews and the couple was facing marital issues at the family’s hometown.
“Mangesh’s father and Vinayak had both tried to broker peace but things went out of hand and Vinayak allegedly slapped Mangesh’s father last month.
A furious Mangesh had decided to extract revenge,” a police official said.
