Kolkata: In the Runun case Robinson Street Skeleton in Kolkata, a woman and her daughter was found to live with her 78-year-old corpse in the northern part of the city, police said on Wednesday.
The incident was revealed after the stench began to radiate from their home in the Bagbazar area.
After their neighbors reminded the police, law enforcers conducted on Tuesday night, only to find the two women who lived with the bodies of Digvijay Ghosh who were 78 years old, said the Shyampur police station officer.
“The man must have died at least one and a half months ago.
The body has entirely decomposed, exposing the framework,” he said, adding that Ghosh was sick.
“The cause of death is unclear.
We have sent the body for post-mortem examination.
We questioned the wife and daughter of the deceased,” the officer said, adding they also tried to ascertain whether the two women were depressed.
The two women, who initially rejected the police efforts to enter the house, were found to live a normal life, had food and did all the daily tasks in the same room where the body lay in bed.
“The door and window were closed and no one was allowed to enter the house.
The deceased’s daughter did not live with her husband and stayed at the mother’s house for the past few years.
We were investigating the incident,” he said.
