AGRA: A 28-year-old woman’s body was found in her house in Aligarh’s Khair area on Thursday morning.
Police have taken her husband into custody for questioning.
The wall of the couple’s bedroom was found scribbled with abusive content against the woman’s father and her family alleges dowry harassment.
Shailey Garg’s father Rajesh Garg alleged that his daughter had been murdered.
“I spoke to my daughter last night at 7:30 pm and today morning around 6am, I got a call that she was dead,” he said.
Garg hails from Bulandshahr’s Khurja city.
He claimed that he had spent Rs 50 lakh on his daughter’s wedding in 2011, but the family members were harassing her for more dowry.
According to police, Gaurav, a brick kiln owner, claimed that when he woke up in the morning, he found his wife hanging in the verandah and he took down her body without informing the police.
The couple has two daughters aged seven and eight years.
Both were present in the house along with other family members, including Shailey’s father-in-law and sister-in-law, at the time of the incident.
The wall of the couple’s bedroom was found scribbled with expletives against the woman’s father, among other things which are being inquired by the police.
Circle officer Mohsin Khan said that an FIR has been registered and the body has been sent for postmortem.
He said there was a dispute between the woman and her husband and they had fought last night too.
The cause of death will be clear in the report, he added.
Gaurav, his father Munnalal and sister Sweta have been booked under sections 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 304-B that deals with dowry related deaths and sections 3, 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 at Bannadevi police station on a complaint filed by Shailey’s father.
