MUMBAI: Police on Tuesday detained a 23-year-old science grad for supposedly stealing money, phones and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.63 lakh in the apartment of a retired college teacher at Mumbai’s Andheri region.
Following her arrest, she Ekta Anand maintained she had been made to take up offense as she had been left with no earnings and pupils stopped coming for her dancing class because of this Covid-19 lockdown.
Ekta was arrested following the police watched videos from 100 closed circuit tv cameras and eventually zeroed in on her in a paying guest (PG) lodging at Mhada construction in Four Bungalows.
Police retrieved the golden decorations and the 2 phones from her ownership.
After committing the offense, the accused chose measures such as covering her face with a mask and also altered at least three auto-rickshaws to traveling a distance of 8km from Andheri (East) for her Versova PG centre.
“Ekta perpetrated the theft over three hours later she walked to the apartment of A Rodrigues (62), in about 9am on May 29.
She learnt that the victim remains alone and obtained her confidence with her control over English language,” explained a police officer.
“Ekta confessed her earlier effort to commit a similar offence neglected May 23.
She triumphed in her next effort.
We followed that the CCTV footages and discovered her shifting auto rickshaws.
It took us 12 times to find her whereabouts,” explained the officer.
Ekta hailed by Bihar and sentenced to Mumbai three decades back and remained within PG Accommodation.
Her brother has been used in Ranchi while her dad is still a businessman.
