Karnal: An 11-year-old girl died and her three-year-old brother was missing after they jumped into a canal along with their mother, aged 35, near Unchana village of Karnal, in what is being suspected to be a case of suicide.
The woman was rescued, but the girl was found dead after a three-hour operation and her brother was still missing.
The woman from Panauri village near Gharaunda is said to have taken the extreme step over differences with her husband.
However, police are yet to register an FIR into the matter and are still carrying out the investigation.
The woman claimed that she had left her children on the bank of the canal and had not asked them to jump along with her.
Baljeet Singh, SHO of Sadar police station, said the body had been sent for postmortem and they were trying to trace the second body.
