Madikeri: Following the Covid crisis, some women have taken to foster rice in the district, give a new lease of life to the land that is not cultivated.
Women – especially from Virajpet Taluk – Under Banner Sanjeevini Okkuta, is growing rice on the land that remains not incorporated for years.
Fifteen Swadaya groups joined Okkuta, who bought rice fields that were not used.
President Okkuta Indira and Assistant Secretary Nisha have helped members with the initial capital for the work.
The villagers say the field owner has stopped growing plants as rice cultivation requires a big labor for plowing, sowing and reducing plants.
This demands high wages.
