Madurai: After Government School Authority in Karur Regency insisted that a female student used his father’s name as his initials, his mother moved Madras High Court who was looking for directions to allow his daughter to continue to use his name as initials.
The court heard the petition submitted by M Pothumponnu, a resident of Kadavur Taluk.
Pothumponnu stated that after her husband left him 14 years ago, he and his daughter P Kaviya had lived with their parents.
He has cared for the family and also the education costs of his daughter directly from basic education.
His daughter is currently studying in class IX in Kadavur Government Middle School.
He stated that when he admitted his daughter to elementary school, he had given his name as his daughter’s initial.
As a result, his name remains the initials of his daughter in all government records including aadhaar cards.
He said his daughter also did not want to have his father’s name but his name was the beginning.
The applicant stated that the examination was carried out at school for students to take advantage of government scholarships.
However, when his daughter was applied to appear for it, the school authority insisted that he mentioned his father’s name as the beginning.
When he went to school and asked the authorities to allow him to write a test, they insisted that he gave his father’s name as early, said Pothumonnu.
The school authority also told him that a similar situation will also appear when Kaviya appeared for the class X public examination.
He said he and his daughter suffered from mental suffering because of the school authority holder who denied Kaviya the opportunity to write the exam.
He stated that government scholarships would benefit greatly to meet their daughter’s education costs.
He said he had submitted a representation to the school education department who tried to allow him to continue using his name as the beginning of his daughter, but it had not been considered.
Therefore he has transferred a court seeking help.
Hearing the request, justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy was looking for responses from the school education department and delayed this case until October 26.
