Tuticorin: A 28-year-old woman, who is separated from her husband sells her baby nine months when she blocks her marriage.
The police arrested a couple to buy the boy for Rs 3 Lakh and an intermediary who helped them.
“A special team is looking for six other people including the baby’s mother, her parents, brothers and uncles because they are in the run,” said police supervisor (SP) from the Tuticorin District of Jayakumar.
R Manikandan, 38, from Aruppukottai in the Virudhunagar district married to Jebamalalar, 28, District Tuticorin in 2019.
The couple lived in the Virudhunagar district until they separated a few months ago because of differences.
Jebamalar returned to his parents in Kothanar Colony in Tuticorin along with their child.
“His parents tried to arrange his marriage and found the baby blocking the prospect of finding an alliance.
So, the family decided to sell the baby,” SP said.
On September 23, Jebamalar, his brother Antony, Mrs.
Kiruba, Father Selvaraj and Uncle Daniel approached Jesudas and Karthikeyan’s brokers to sell the baby without the knowledge of Manikandan.
They sold the child for Rs 3 Lakh to a couple who did not have children, H Selvamani, 52 and his wife Sridevi, 40 of Kankumumari District.
Manikandan who heard that his son was sold to go to the juebamalar house and found him missing.
On September 28, he filed a complaint to the Sipcot police to save his son.
A special team led by an officer in the rank of the police supervisory assistant traced the existence and saved the nine-month player on Friday.
They also captured Selvamani and Sridevi and S Karthikeyan, 30, from Reddiyarpatti near Rajapalayam in the Virudhunagar district which is one of the intermediaries.
The trio is produced in front of the court and is returned in judicial detention.
The baby was produced before the District Children’s Welfare Committee in Tuticorin on Friday.
After checking the evidence produced by the Biological Father, the baby was handed over to him.
Nine people, including juebamalar, parents, relatives and intermediaries are booked under Section 81 (punishment for anyone who sells or buys a child for Juvenile justice purposes).
