Thane: A woman from Thane was arrested by the Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI) for allegedly trying to smuggle a foreign currency worth Rs 25 Lakh at Varanasi Airport on Monday.
A resident of Ulhasnagar, the 27-year-old woman said that she was a cash courier working for Ulhasnagar’s smuggling cartel.
Dri has received a tip-off of his arrival at Varanasi Airport.
“Dressed in jeans and top, the woman grabbed a security check with her heavy luggage and was detained by Dri Sleuths.
His trot bag has a foreign currency worth Rs 25 Lakh – 246 records 500 denominations of riyals and 600 dirhams,” said Sumber DRI.
The defendant was served before the judge after he was arrested.
“Prima facie, the woman smuggled cash for the first time because she wanted to get fast money.
He comes from a middle class family.
Further interrogation will be done to find out the people behind this money laundering,” said a Dethuth Dri on Monday .
In August 2019, the water intelligence unit had intercepted the Indian partner, flew to Bangkok, with foreign currencies that were not declared worth Rs 1 Crore at Mumbai Airport.
