Gurgaon: A woman has lost nearly Rs 16 lakh for the caller imitating bank representatives after he contacted customer care numbers from a leading private bank to resolve the problem with his bank account, police said, police said.
In November last year, Poornima Anand, a citizen of sector 53, recorded complaints related to his account at the bank customer service number.
On November 12, he received a call from someone identified as Rahul Sharma from the bank and asked him to download Anydesk so he could investigate this problem.
During the call, he apply for a loan of Rs 13.15 lakh from his account and transferred the amount to a different online wallet.
“I am not aware of transactions and do not receive notification from the bank,” Anand said.
On November 25, he again received a call from a man who identified as Sujith, a bank representative.
He also asked Anand to download Anydesk and enter his bank account.
The cheater resigned from Rs 3 Lakh from his account.
The case has been submitted at the Cyber Police Station under the IPC part 420 (cheating) and part 66D from IT ACT.TNN
