Ranchi: First for the country, a female officer from the Indian Train Traffic Cadre (IRTS), Archana Joshi, became the general manager of the Indian train zone on Monday.
Joshi, a 1985-batch IRTS officer, was appointed as General Manager of the South Eastern Railway (SER) last week.
Headquartered in Kolkata, SER has administrative control over the Ranchi and Chakradharpur train division in the Jharkhand and Adra train and Kharagpur division in West Bengal.
“Joshi is the first IRT female officer to become a general manager on the train,” said the series in a statement.
The statement further said Joshi was posted as assistant manager (tourism and catering) on the railroad board before the general manager appointed.
An alumnus from the University of Punjab, Joshi works in various capacities with the North Railroad, Northwestern train, Western train and northeast train.
After taking over the post at the head office, Joshi held a senior official of four divisions to highlight the immediate priority.
“There should be an emphasis on the income generation, running the train at the maximum allowed speed limit, monitoring the ongoing infrastructure development project, passenger safety and reaching the target loading of goods transportation,” Joshi said as quoted during the meeting.
