Work at Mandya Veggie Market to start in March

B K Lakshmikanthamysuru: If everything goes according to the plan, the construction of the old vegetable market is delayed at Mandya will begin in March.
Mandya City Municipal Council has decided to take a job at a cost of almost Rs 5 Crore.
Although there were several discussions and decisions taken during the CMC meeting to start work in the last decade, because of some technical problems, it couldn’t see the light that day.
But finally because of the efforts of the President of CMC HS Manju and Mla M Srinivas, this project was decided to be taken in March.
At present, the old vegetable market, which is in dilapidated condition, has 58 stores rented to Vendors a few years ago.
CMC also collects coards from 52 shops on the market.
Most of the rental shop was built by the vendor itself by setting up a temporary warehouse.
CMC receives 1.2 lakh Rs as an annual income from shops.
However, because of poor maintenance and lack of infrastructure, visiting the existing market, especially during the rainy season, has become a nightmare for the public.
To end public trials, CMC has completed the tender process and entrusted a contract to a construction company based in Bengaluru to build a market building with 88 stores.
In the end, CMC had planned to build a building with the basement, but his deputy commissioner, after consulting a train authority, refused the basement and agreed to the ground floor.
CMC president HS Manju told the Toi that people demanded the right vegetable market in the city.
“This project has been cleaned and construction work will begin from next month.
CMC has almost Rs 8 Crore for work.
We also plan the construction of the first floor and have written letters to the government to provide Rs 10 Crore for work,” he said.
The existing market will be destroyed before taking the job, Manju said it was a new market would have all the facilities including cold storage to preserve convincing vegetables.
Jobs on a complete market will be completed within one year.
“Meanwhile, vendors will be temporarily transferred to the APMC market building until the construction of completion and shops are allocated for beneficiaries,” he said.
A piece of history in 1951, Mysuru Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar lay the foundation stone for the construction of the Vegetable Market in 1951.
The construction of the market near the railway line at Pete Beethi was completed in 1952-53.
