Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has started the process of building a system of underground sewerage in the South City Cluster of Chennai.
A consultant will soon be identified to prepare detailed project reports.
This will be executed under the investment program of Flagship TN (TNUFIP) by TN Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Ltd.
(TNUFSL).
It was decided to provide an underground sewerage system in Clusters of Basakkam, Perungalihur, Kundrathur and Guduvanchery after the government identified that areas around Chennai have recorded exponential growth in the population because of the migration of other parts of the state of other parts of other parts of other parts of other parts .
There is an urgent need to improve basic facilities such as roads, storm waterways, street lights, solid waste management systems and sewerage facilities, considered.

As part of the first tranche of TNUFIP, RS 78.9 Crore has been allocated as a Grant Project Development Fund.

Likewise, the Town Department Panchayats also insisted on the inclusion of Kundrathur and Nanthivaram-Guduvanchery clusters in this project.
This was ratified in August this year by TNUFSL.
CLUSTER FLOOR CLUSTER will have one municipality, two city Panchayats (Chalypolskam and Madambakkam) and 17 Panchayats villages including Vengavaasal, Medavakkam and Sithalapakkam.
The total population of this cluster, according to the 2011 census, is 2.7 lakh.
The cluster of Perubalathur, with a total population of 1.24 lakh per census in 2011, will have the city of PancaTayat PerungalaThur and PEPISEKARIAN and Panchayats village from Vandalur, Manivakkam, Kilambakkam, Mudacharajapuram.
The Kundrathur cluster, whose total population is 1.58 lakh per census in 2011, will consist of the city of Pancrayat Kundrathur and 20 Panchayats villages including Kovur, Thandalam and Kabolapkam.
Finally, the Guduvanchery cluster, with a population of 91,316, will have a city of Nanthivaram-Guduvanchery Panchayat and Panchayats Village of Urapakkam, Karanipuducheri, Perumattunallur and Kayrambedu.
The state government has decided that a combined sewerage system for Panchayats and Panchayats City will be profitable and economical than separate.
Treated in general plants for individual clusters, can be used for industrial and agricultural purposes.
