Gurgaon: The construction of the Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is likely to gain some impetus with National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) starting the work for the shifting of four water pipelines at Signature Towers falling in the way of the proposed route.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has already approved the proposal for the shifting of the pipelines and has also assigned land for the purpose.
According to GMDA officials, they had received a request from NCRTC about the shifting.
“As asked, we drafted a proposal for the work and have submitted it to NCRTC.
The work will be funded and executed by them,” an official from the metropolitan authority said.
Sources said before removing the existing pipelines, NCRTC will be constructing new pipelines, work on which has already begun.
Land has been allocated by GMDA for the purpose.
Talking about the status of work on the Delhi-Gurgaon-Alwar corridor, NCRTC officials said the project is currently in the pre-construction phase.
“We are currently doing all the pre-construction work such as shifting of utilities, including water pipelines and electricity lines.
This will help us become ready to start civic work as soon as the approvals come in,” said an NCRTC official.
He added that the same process was followed with the Delhi-Meerut rail corridor, where pre-construction work was done for two years, which helped expedite civic work.
Floating of tenders for the pre-construction work of the project had begun in 2018, following which geo-technical investigations were carried out.
The corridor is planned to be constructed in about five years’ time, excluding one year of pre-construction activities funded by the Centre (20%), the state governments concerned (20%) and other agencies (60%).
Under the project, a 106-km-long corridor will start from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Shahjahanpur, Neemrana and Behror (SNB), which is just ahead of Bawal in Haryana.
The corridor will include various regional nodes like Gurgaon, Manesar, Pachgaon and Rewari.
In the second phase, the line will be extended from SNB to Sotanala in Rajasthan, and in the third phase, the stretch from SNB to Alwar will be constructed.
The Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB corridor will be elevated for about 71km (which includes 11 stations), while the remaining 35km (which includes five stations) will be underground, mostly in Delhi and Gurgaon.
This corridor will converge with other RRTS corridors at Sarai Kale Khan.
