Coimbatore: Mill workers and union members on Wednesday held protests near the South Taluk Office, demanding the reopening of all factories run by a national textile company in Coimbatore.
The protesters, led by the United Indian Workers’ Union Center (Culu) of the Padamanaban District and Progressive Progressive Secretary Progressive Parthasarathy, demanded that factory workers be paid for full salary.
According to protesters, there are seven factories, including Pankaja Mill and Murugan Mill in Coimbatore, which is run by corporations.
They closed a few months ago because of the pandemic situation.
Closure has reached hundreds of workers depending on the factory.
Although locking has been relaxed and other industrial units have continued function, the factory is not open.
The government must take steps to reopen the factory, not only in coimbatore but throughout the state, protesters demand.
Until then, the workers had to be paid for full salary, they urged.
