Mangaluru: Working in Afghanistan changed for life, said Gopalakrishna Gowda, 37, from Shibaraje Guthu House, Kalanja Village in Beltangady.
Gopalakrishna works for Anham, a company that views food for NATO forces outside Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan.
He has worked in Afghanistan in various companies, for almost a decade.
He told the Toi, “I got home on July 26 after winding the operation.
We have an indication that the US can withdraw from the country, by looking at the situation around.
We are a little worried, because we are right outside the airbase, though We have our own security guards provided by the Afghan military.
We are trained and give a direction of regular evacuation plans.
“Living in Afghanistan is changing, because this region is often an earthquake, and living in a war zone is clearly an adventure.
“Security checks are often reviewed.
Interestingly, you tend to save you a lot of your income, because of its low expenditure,” said Gopalakrishna, who also worked in Iraq.
From March 2016 to July 26, he worked in Afghanistan and for a short period of time in the US too.
He is currently working for a company based in Bengaluru.
