New Delhi: Wholesale price-based inflation decreased 10.66 percent in September, assisted by moderating food prices even when crude oil witnessed a surge.
WPI inflation remains in two digits for the sixth month in a row.
In August, it was 11.39 percent.
In September 2020, inflation was 1.32 percent.
“High inflation rate in September 2021 mainly due to the increase in mineral oil prices, basic metals, non-food articles, food products, crude oil & natural gas, chemicals and chemical products etc.
Compared to the month according to the previous year,” Trade said and the Ministry of Industry in a statement.
Inflation in food articles subsided for the fifth consecutive month, recording (-) 4.69 percent in September from (-) 1.29 percent in August, mainly due to reducing vegetable prices.
The price of pulses continues to surge at 9.42 percent.
Inflation in fuel and the power basket was 24.91 percent in September, against 26.09 percent in the previous month.
The increase in crude oil and natural gas prices was 43.92 percent in September more than 40.03 percent in the previous month.
In manufacturing products, inflation reached 11.41 percent for a month.
RBI, which mainly takes into account retail inflation in its monetary policy, earlier this month keeping interest rates unchanged at the lowest record.
Retail inflation in September was too slowed to a five-month low of 4.4 percent at moderate food prices.
