WTC Final: Good news – Rain unlikely to affect play on Day 5 in Southampton

NEW DELHI: The weather forecast for Day 5 in Southampton is looking promising and fans might get to witness some high-octane action in the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand.
“Cloud will slowly break through the morning, and some pleasant afternoon sunny intervals are likely.
Otherwise, remaining rather cool under the cloud, with northerly breezes, stronger around Kent coasts.
Maximum temperature 18 °C,” according to the UK Met Department.
The good news is that the weather is likely to stay mostly clear tomorrow as well.
Wednesday is the reserve sixth day that the ICC has kept to guard against bad weather.
With two full days of play being washed out, the reserve day will be fully used.
“Variable cloud and sunny spells on Wednesday and Thursday.
Dry, and feeling warm inland,” according to the UK Met Department.

After Day 1, this became the second day when no play was possible at all.
Day 2 saw 64.4 overs being bowled by New Zealand, after Kane Williamson won the toss and put India into bat.
On Day 3 after India were skittled out for 217 in a total of 92.1 overs, New Zealand ended Day 3 at 101/2 in 49.0 overs.
A total of 77.1 overs were bowled on the third day.
If rain and bad light don’t affect play much for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday), a result can be expected in the WTC final.
If the match ends in a draw or tie, India and New Zealand will share the World Test Championship title.
New Zealand are trailing India currently by 116 runs (101/2), with Kane Williamson (12) and Ross Taylor (0) unbeaten at the crease in their first innings.
